This article from the Neiman Journalism Lab talks about the new partnering of Upworthy and ProPublica, Human Rights Watch and Climate Nexus. They call this the next step towards producing new and original content. I thought this was an interesting development. It will be interesting to see if this helps Upworthy recover from the hit they took when Facebook changed their algorithm.
It makes sense to me that the website known for giving massive attention to issues would partner with organizations which have causes that need attention. This seems like an excellent extension of the niche that Upworthy has already established. If Upworthy can recover and keep their impressive number of hits, this could be the beginning of something important.
